The ownership of this estate is not clear. In the almanacs, Liberty Hall is registered variously to Charles, Elizabeth, Catherine and John Ferguson. In 1817 the enslaved people were registered in four groups, of roughly equal size, with the owners Thomas Ferguson (this group inherited by Catherine Ferguson after Thomas's death c. 1822), Charles Ferguson (who died c. 1830 and whose executrix was El
