1. Originally Horne's estate and established from 1674 and in the hands of Col. John Horne. By 1721 it was owned by James Gohier, a London merchant, whose son (also John) was living in Barbados. In James Gohier's will he appears to refer to this estate as 'Clift' and left his wife and daughter interests in the produce of the Clift estate subject to an annuity of £800 p.a. to Col. Thomas Horne (who
was also his son-in-law): he left another estate in the Island of Providence [sic, presumably Rhode Island] to his son, also James [Will of James Grohier merchant London of Island of Barbados proved 24/03/1724, PROB 11/596/257].2. The estate - of approximately 315 acres - was still owned by the Nurse family in 1913.
