Lafourche or, the fork, is known today as the Bayou Lafourche which runs from Donaldsville to Leeville, LA. Originally named after the Chitimacha (Chetimachas) native Americans. Chitimachas is on the NYPL map Carte de la Louisiane Cours du Mississipi.
