Essex Plantation
John Wade owned enslaved people in St Mary from at least 1817 but it's not clear he owned the land of Essex plantation at this point. In the early 1820s, John Wade and James McIntyre bought over 130 enslaved people, 50 from Thomas McLagan on Upton estate and the rest from St Andrew. They divided their joint ownership by 1826 and the enslaved people were registered to McIntyre's estate (Harmony Hal
