Statements
Holders was also known as the Black Rock plantation. Between 1656 and 1680 it was owned by Timothy Thornhill. Subsequently it was acquired by the Hon William Holder who, in his will of 1706, left it to his son John Holder. He then left it in his will of 1725 to his son William Holder. ory is obscure. Hughes-Queree suggest that R. M. Smitten was the owner by 1825 but while the compensation claim was lodged by his Widow, Catherine Smitten, challenged by Brandon et al., the estate does not appear in the Slave Registers after 1817, where it was known as Black Rock, nor do the names of the enslaved in 1817 seem to be listed in relation to Smitten in any of the slave registers.
