The Bagdale and Fullerswood estates belonged to James Rowe of Great Torrington, Devon. The family appears to have moved to Jamaica, with little trace in Devon after c. 1785. In 1780 his children were identified as William Rowe of St Elizabeth (the eldest and heir apparent), James Rowe the younger of St Elizabeth, John Rowe of Great Torrington clerk, Charles Rowe of St Elizabeth and two daughters,
Judith and Mary of Great Torrington. The James Rowe deceased shown in Jamaica Almanacs of the 1820s was presumably his son (or grandson) and William Rowe the minor of the award his grandson or great-grandson.Bagdale and Fullerswood had been mortgaged to Braikenridge and Honnywell from at least 1805 to 1836. William Rowe the minor was entitled to an annuity which was also charged on the crops (to w
hich Braikenridge and Honnywell were not entitled, as mortgagees in possession) therefore entitling him to a share of the compensation - see JA13369.
